Susanna Romano of Salon 689 is a master hairstylist, entrepreneur, and industry trailblazer whose career is rooted in legacy, design, and cultural influence. The daughter of a hairdresser who worked with legendary producer Jon Peters in the late 1970s, Susanna was raised in an environment where beauty, discipline, and high standards were the norm. From an early age, she understood that hairstyling was not just about appearance—it was about transformation, confidence, and artistry.

A first-generation Italian American, Susanna carries a deep appreciation for heritage, craftsmanship, and style. She studied design at Parsons School of Design, developing a trained eye for proportion and form that would later distinguish her work behind the chair. Though proud of her Italian roots, she has long held a love affair with French culture and aesthetic. She traveled to Paris to take advanced hair classes, refining her technique and embracing the effortless sophistication that defines French beauty.

From 1989 to 1997, Susanna became the first woman on the designer team at The Salon at Bergdorf Goodman, marking a significant milestone in her career and in the industry. She later founded Salon AKS, building it into a respected and enduring presence for 29 years. Her leadership style fostered loyalty, mentorship, and excellence. When she and her partner Alain launched Salon 689, the entire staff chose to follow—an extraordinary testament to the culture they created.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Susanna’s life is guided by balance and purpose. She raised her two daughters with a strong appreciation for language and global perspective, enrolling them at Lycée Français de New York. A passionate advocate for healthy living and making a meaningful difference in others’ lives, she brings warmth, humor, and authenticity to everything she does.
