Alain Pinon

At a very young age, Alain dreamed of one day living and working in New York City. Growing up in Paris, his innate French sense of style and culture led him to the internationally renowned Jacques Dessange Salon on the Champs-Élysées. There, he not only refined his craft behind the chair but also trained fellow stylists at the Dessange school during the week.

Early in his career, Alain was already performing platform work and presenting new hair collections in Paris to audiences of more than 4,000 beauty professionals. It was on these stages that he developed his signature style and natural leadership, combining creativity, precision, and inspiration.

Upon arriving in New York City and embracing a new language and culture, Alain was energized by the passion and drive of the American spirit. He joined Bergdorf Goodman, where he became part of the management team — an experience that ultimately inspired him to launch Salon AKS.

Under Alain’s leadership, Salon AKS grew from five employees at its Madison Avenue location to a team of 65 professionals in a 6,500-square-foot flagship space on Fifth Avenue. After nearly 30 years of remarkable success, Alain made the heartfelt decision to close the salon in 2025. Deeply moved by the loyalty and unity of his team, who refused to part ways he began an exciting new chapter with Salon 689, that seats in the intimate penthouse space located on Fifth Avenue.

Alain’s style is known for its creative sophistication and effortlessness of his work. He believes hair should not only look beautiful, but function seamlessly within each client’s lifestyle.

His work has been featured on the runway during New York Fashion Week for designers such as Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, and Oscar de la Renta. He has collaborated with legendary photographers including Patrick Demarchelier, Bruce Weber, and David LaChapelle for editorials and advertising campaigns.

Throughout his career, Alain has styled iconic figures such as Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Carla Bruni for leading fashion publications. His expertise has also been trusted by notable personalities including David Bowie, Jerry Seinfeld, Holt McCallany, and Christie Brinkley to new just a few.

Beyond the world of beauty and fashion, Alain is deeply committed to personal growth through martial arts. He is a highly ranked practitioner of Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu, disciplines that strengthen both body and mind. Above all, however, his greatest joy comes from traveling with his family and spending meaningful time with his college-bound son.
